Aside from the recent fiasco organised there by the Generals to overthrow the Gorvernment, I would like to express a severe dis-satisfaction with the way that the place is run. I have eight
    main issues:-

    1. Access to vehicular arrival entrances blocked off - except for Thai Airways that was obstructed by vehicles, and another at almost the extremity of the area (for all other airlines).
    2. Landside - very little seating provided; such as exists was mostly that marked for Thai Airways (near end) and Domestic customers (far end). Airside - even less, and hardly anything at such "cafes" as exist.
    3. Baggage trolleys at entrance to airside hidden away. For arrivals - all trolleys removed from the aircraft arrival areas! Furthermore, daft policy of not permitting trolleys in immigration areas.
    4. Inadequate restaurant facilities. Landside facility seems to be a well kept secret located a couple of floors up, and pretty poor anyway. Airside arrangements seemed to be American crap only.
    5. Changed requirement to present ALL VAT reclaims for examination landside not adequately notified. Cretinous requirement to take the ORIGINAL invoice - instead of a copy (original is the customer's accounting document). Getting back to landside from airside VAT office unnecessarily difficult; turns out that there's no security at all in place - turned out that I could walk out through immigration and back in bypassing the queues without challenge of any sort! So much for airport security!
    6. Got the general impression that having passengers in the place is something that the operators would prefer not to have! Perhaps it makes the place look untidy.
    7. Had a daft security check when initially entering airside, where hand luggage was checked - but my person wasn't! On UNATHORISED re-entry, not checked at all. Suggest thar the Security Manager be re-assigned as the Public Convenience Attendant.
    8. Landside Postal facility hidden away in Domestic area; no airside facility.

I think that the architect's last job was designing the R101 airship hanger!

Sorry, but you neglected to mention another serious problem here. That is the fact that the place is a thieves paradise, and has been since the day it opened.

I don't just mean pickpockets and such on the landside either. There is a major racket at the airport involving luggage handling staff. Aside from occasional well-publicised token busts the response of all those who should give a damn, is just to look away. This includes AOT and their security staff, TAT, Ministry of Tourism, the airlines, and police. You will be very lucky if you can even find someone in the Airports Authority who will ever even return an email or phone call (in fact you will be lucky if you can even locate a phone number or email address to use!)

A truly pathetic situation and a disgrace to all Thais that this is allowed to continue.

And I should know as I have been through the process of being robbed and then trying to get someone to do something about it. Have a try using google or yahoo with search words "Bangkok airport Suvarnabhumi luggage theft", read any thailand forum or newsgroup. Many many people have been affected by this scourge.

Anyone reading this please be sure to carry anything remotely valuable on your person, and lock and shrink-wrap any check-in luggage. They even stole our child's teddy bear from our case. They will even open cases in the hold of the aircraft to rifle through them!! You have been warned.
